Category of Fundamentals of Islam

The category of Fundamentals of Islam help the Muslims to achieve balance in their lives between outward worship (Islam), inner beliefs (Iman), and spiritual and ethical conduct (Ihsan). The goal is to attain a comprehensive religious life that is reflected in the Muslim's relationship with Allah, with people, and with life.

About the mosque

A mosque is considered a sacred place for Muslims and serves as a center for religious worship. It acts as a sanctuary where believers gather to perform their five daily prayers, the Friday congregational prayer, and to celebrate Islamic holidays. The mosque is characterized as a place of peace and inner tranquility, where individuals come to connect with the Creator through recitation of the Quran, supplication, and remembrance, enhancing their spiritual closeness to Allah. It also serves as a center for Islamic education and religious study, where people learn about Islamic values, ethics, and heritage. Furthermore, the mosque strengthens social bonds among Muslims, providing a space for religious and social gatherings, and promoting brotherhood and unity within the community. Overall, the mosque is a vital center in the life of a Muslim, combining worship, education, and social interaction, essential for nurturing spiritual fulfillment and religious devotion among individuals and communities alike.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself."

"A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, who among the people is most deserving of my good companionship?' He said, 'Your mother.' The man asked, 'Then who?' He said, 'Your mother.' The man asked again, 'Then who?' He said, 'Your mother.' The man asked once more, 'Then who?' He said, 'Your father.'"

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will receive a reward, and the reward will be multiplied by ten. I do not say that 'Alif Lam Mim' is one letter, but rather 'Alif' is a letter, 'Lam' is a letter, and 'Mim' is a letter." (Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever has three daughters, or three sisters, or two daughters, or two sisters, and he treats them well and fears Allah regarding them, will be admitted to Paradise." (Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi)

Our Services

Brothers and sisters, peace be upon you, and may the mercy and blessings of Allah be with you.

Over the past ten years, the number of the Muslim community in our beautiful state has increased. In addition to the new arrivals of immigrants from Islamic countries, we have also noticed an increase in the number of newborns in Muslim families, as well as those who have migrated from other states. The growth of the Islamic community has created a need for an Islamic center that provides religious, social, and cultural services. The Cumberland Islamic Center will offer a variety of services to our community in the state of Maine. We invite you to support our efforts.

Mosque

Establishing a mosque for prayer and Islamic rituals: We aim to build a mosque with Capacity of 500 worshipers, equipped with all necessary amenities such as carpets, air conditioning, lighting, sound systems, electronic screens, and other facilities suitable for those who worship Allah. The mosque will also include a dedicated prayer area for women, ensuring complete privacy, allowing them to interact with each other and learn about the true teachings of Islam. Additionally, the mosque will provide special chairs for the elderly and people with special needs who are unable to pray on the floor.

Teaching the Quran

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The best among of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it." Islam is not only a religion through which we draw closer to the Creator, but it is also a comprehensive way of life and social system detailed by Allah in His Glorious Book. Teaching the Quran to our children will help them lead a dignified and stable life and protect them from the dangers of falling into sin and destruction.

School for Teaching the Prophetic Sunnah (Way)

Adults and Children

In this school, students receive a variety of knowledge that introduces them to Islamic and Arab history. As you know, brothers and sisters, we come from countries where parents and educators share the same values. However, here the situation is quite different, as what the educational institutions offer to our children do not align with our values and religious principles. Therefore, the need for the school arises for two reasons: first, to teach our children the Arabic Language, and second, to protect them from intellectual alienation.

Recreational Activities for Youth

Given the cultural and religious differences in our Arab and Islamic community and the environment we live in, our youth often lack appropriate places to spend their free time. As a result, some of them may end up going to places that could lead them towards negative influences. Therefore, the Islamic center will establish a dedicated program for youth, equipped with intellectual and physical games to help develop their mental and physical abilities.

Washing and Shrouding

Washing the deceased is one of the Islamic rituals performed after the death of a Muslim before burial. Living in a society with different traditions from our Islamic traditions may put our families under pressure and confusion when faced with such a tragedy. Therefore, we have decided to offer the service of washing and shrouding the deceased according to Islamic conditions. We also provide everything needed, including a coffin, transportation, burial arrangements, and funeral ceremonies.

Awareness Seminars

In addition to our services at the Cumberland Islamic Center, we host awareness and guidance seminars and workshops throughout the week on various issues that concern our honorable community. These include discussions on new laws, the dangers of drugs, domestic violence, and other advisory matters that can help protect our brothers and sisters from harm.

Introducing Islam to Non-Muslims

Islam is a monotheistic religion that focuses on the worship of the one God and considers Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final prophet. Muslims adhere to five main pillars: the declaration of the oneness of God and the prophethood of Muhammad, prayer, almsgiving, fasting, and pilgrimage. Islam promotes justice, mercy, and encourages peace and peaceful coexistence. The Quran is the holy book for Muslims.

Special Classes for New Muslims

Special classes for new Muslims aim to introduce them to the basics of Islam and support them in practicing their worship. These classes include teaching Islamic beliefs, how to perform prayers, reading the Quran, and understanding basic Islamic morals such as honesty and integrity. The lessons are presented in a simplified and straightforward manner, whether in mosques, Islamic centers, or online, to facilitate understanding and applying Islamic teachings in their daily lives.

Personal Affairs

We offer specialized services in the field of personal and family Affairs, including religion related and legal consultations concerning marriage, divorce, custody, and lineage. Our goal is to provide support and guidance to achieve justice and stability in family relationships.
